Continuing the Beauty of China

Being one of the very few contemporary Chinese designer brands in the frontline of luxury retail, Mr. Yewn, the Heritage designer jeweler would share with his audience his extensive experience on questioning where on earth can we find contemporary Chinese designs, especially in the fine jewelry and luxury fields. Where and when Chinese jewelry even started to exist and how it is doing in this globalized world.

The discussion or talk would cover some historical background of Chinese arts and crafts and will have a substantial period of time for open discussion with the audience.

About the speaker

Born in Hong Kong, Dickson Yewn divided his undergraduate years of fine arts and business studies between Paris and Ottawa. In New York City, he continued his studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology in photography and jewelry design. Yewn has worked in a variety of creative fields including design, advertising and film before beginning on his conceptual jewelry collections for life of circle in 2000.

Since childhood, Dickson Yewn has devoted himself to fine arts and has an especially strong attraction to Chinese arts and culture. Since 1995, based on his fine arts training, Yewn has also been creating fine and luxury jewelry pieces for his elitist customers. Most pieces are either one-of-a-kind or limited edition pieces. From Lattice, Paper Cut, Lock of Good Wishes to Glorious Peony Collections, his works draw inspiration from Chinese arts and culture.

His conceptual jewelry store, life of circle, was selected by Forbes Magazine in 2005 as one of the top 25 stores in the world, winning the category for jewelry store among other brand names such as Hermès, Manolo Blahnik and Ralph Lauren. In 2008, Yewn was invited by Sotheby’s to design a melo pearl demi-parure suite, which was glamorously sold for more than five million Hong Kong dollars.

In 2011, YEWN has become the first contemporary Chinese luxury jewelry brand chosen by the American First Lady. Michelle Obama was seen wearing YEWN’s iconic Lattice Ring while waiting with her husband for the arrival of the Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The ring caught the eyes of many of the guests at the lavish event, which included UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Oscar winner Colin Firth, English football star David Beckham, Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, and J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series.

Despite his business occupation, Yewn still continues his fine arts career. Yewn has been featured in 7 solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions worldwide. Yewn has also published two photographic books, Photographs of Betrayal and dickson yewn's No Man's Land. His art works are collected by the Heritage Museum of Hong Kong and the City of Montpellier in France.
